This autumn, Leica Gallery Amsterdam proudly presents the debut solo photography exhibition of world-renowned techno DJ, producer, and photographer, Dave Clarke. Best known as "The Baron of Techno," Clarke has spent decades shaping the electronic music scene, but now turns his creative vision to the art of photography in ‘In the Shatter Light’.

The exhibition showcases Clarke’s striking monochrome photography, including landscapes, portraiture, and architectural imagery. A significant part of the collection features photos taken in Iceland, a place Clarke has visited for over 20 years, which also inspired his latest album. His portrait work delves deep into the psyche of his subjects, while his architectural shots reveal his fascination with design and its interaction with the environment.

 

Having had his work previously featured on the covers of Billboard Italia and other publications, In the Shatter Light marks Clarke’s first solo exhibition and highlights the synergy between his musical and visual artistry.

 

Dave Clarke has been a passionate photographer for many years, honing his craft as a self-taught artist. His transition from sound to image is rooted in his touring life, often capturing moments on his Leica camera. Clarke’s work is deeply influenced by renowned photographers like Francesca Woodman, Sarah Moon, and Saul Leiter, drawing on their ability to capture the ethereal and the architectural in profound ways.

 

For Clarke, photography is not just a medium but a complement to his musical career. He describes his photography as a way to "slow down time," allowing him to see the world from a different perspective than through music.
